Our Story
A workshop built on patience and plain words.
Thip Wela began with a single bench in Phuket's old town quarter — and the conviction that watch repair should never feel rushed or obscure.
Who we are
The workshop behind the name
Thip Wela — the name carries the Thai word for time, wela, alongside a gentle brightness. It describes the feeling we want every customer to have when they collect their watch: that time was taken, and the result is steady.
We opened on Phang Nga Road in Phuket's Talat Yai neighbourhood, a street with its own quiet rhythm, not far from the old town's shophouses. Our founder spent years working alongside senior watchmakers in Bangkok before returning to Phuket, where his family is from, to open a workshop that felt like the opposite of a hurried service centre.
Today we handle a small number of pieces at a time — by choice. The bench does not move faster than the work requires. Every owner receives a written record of what was done and why, in terms that make sense to a non-specialist.
Founded on restraint
We take on fewer pieces so each receives the time it deserves. No queue of watches left waiting on a shelf for weeks.
Plain communication
We describe what we found in everyday language. Technical terms are explained, not used to fill space or justify cost.
Local and permanent
A fixed address in Phuket — not a postal drop-off. You can walk in, see the bench, and speak with the person who will work on your watch.
Our Mission
Return every watch to steady motion — and its owner to confidence.
Watch ownership is often a quiet pleasure — a piece kept for years, worn daily or on occasion, carrying some personal meaning. When it needs care, the experience of having it serviced should match that quality. We aim to be the workshop where nothing is rushed, nothing is hidden, and the watch comes back better than it arrived.
The People
Hands at the bench
Krit Wattana
Lead Watchmaker
Trained in Bangkok and completed a three-year posting with a Swiss movement distributor. Krit returned to Phuket to work closer to home and to slow down — not the watches, but the work itself.
Nipa Phrommas
Restoration Technician
Nipa specialises in case and bracelet work — refinishing, crystal fitting, and seal renewal. She has a background in fine metalwork and brings a jeweller's eye to surface restoration.
Arthit Thamrong
Customer Liaison
Arthit is the first person you will speak with. He handles the written reports, manages enquiries, and makes sure every owner understands what is happening with their watch at every stage.
Standards
How we keep the work careful
Calibrated equipment
Our timing machine and measurement tools are checked regularly. We do not estimate — we read what the movement tells us and document the numbers.
Appropriate lubricants
We use lubricants matched to movement type and climate. Phuket's heat and humidity are factored into every lubrication decision — not treated as an afterthought.
Safe storage while in our care
Each piece is placed in a labelled cushioned tray from the moment it arrives. Nothing is left loose on a surface. Your watch is tracked from drop-off to collection.
Pre-work written assessment
Before any service begins, a written assessment is prepared and shared with you. You read what we found and decide how to proceed. No assumptions are made.
Post-service timing check
After every movement service, the watch runs for at least 48 hours before collection. Timing is measured across positions and the figures are included in your written record.
Data handled quietly
Contact details and service records are kept securely and used only for the work at hand. We do not pass information to third parties or use it for purposes beyond your repair.
Expertise
Mechanical watch care in Phuket
Mechanical watches — whether hand-wound or automatic — are small systems of moving parts that rely on clean lubricants, accurate regulation, and properly fitted seals to function well. Over time, lubricants dry or migrate, beat rate drifts, and gaskets compress. None of these changes are failures; they are the natural character of a mechanical object doing its work over years.
At Thip Wela, we work with this understanding. A service is not a repair of something broken — it is a careful return to the conditions a movement was designed to run in. Our Wind & Accuracy Tune addresses the most common reason owners visit us: a watch that has shifted from comfortable daily accuracy. A Comfort Fitting & Refresh focuses on how the watch feels and looks on the wrist. The Restoration & Protection Package is a fuller investment — suited to watches that have not been serviced in many years or that carry personal or monetary significance worth preserving.
Phuket's tropical climate adds considerations that do not apply in cooler regions. Humidity accelerates certain forms of wear on seals and affects some lubricants. We factor local conditions into every assessment and do not simply apply manufacturer recommendations without adaptation.
Customers come to us from across Phuket and from visitors spending time on the island. If you are not local, we can discuss collection and return arrangements. The conversation begins whenever you are ready.
